The intent of this thesis is to investigate how the scheduler inside the host operating system affects the computational resources assigned to a target task, which runs on a virtual machine, varying several configuration parameters. Before focusing on experiments, it is necessary to introduce various aspects, primarily some concepts of operating system and the structure of the Linux kernel that will be used in the experiments. Next, we need to focus on how scheduling works inside Linux. And finally, as a last step, we need to explore the world of virtualization, which is becoming more and more important in modern society. In Chapter 1, some basic operating system concepts and a brief overview of the Linux kernel are provided. In Chapter 2, the Linux scheduler structure is illustrated. Chapter 3 describes in detail what is meant by virtualization, its various shades and its components. In Chapter 4, the results of the performed experiments are illustrated and discussed.
