Media effect on the perception of terrorism in North American citizens: a survey and a linguistic analysis.

L'obiettivo di questa dissertazione è quello di studiare se, e quanto, i media influenzano la percezione del terrorismo nei cittadini nordamericani, utilizzando un questionario e un'analisi linguistica. Il questionario è stato somministrato ad un campione di individui, provenienti dal Canada e dagli Stati Uniti, i quali hanno volontariamente risposto ad alcune domande mirate a comprendere quanto i media influenzano l'opinione pubblica in materia di terrorismo. Le risposte saranno analizzate, e saranno successivamente studiate, utilizzando metodi di analisi linguistica, così da ottenere dati utili a rispondere alla domanda che sta alla base della tesi: quanto è influenzata l'opinione pubblica, dai media, riguardo la questione del terrorismo?

This dissertation's objective is to study if and how much the media affect the perception of terrorism in North American citizens, using a survey and a linguistic analysis. The survey has been administered to a sample of individuals, from Canada and the USA, who voluntarily have answered to some questions aimed at understanding how the media influence the public opinion on the topic of terrorism. The answers will be analyzed and they are going to be studied using methods of linguistic analysis. They will also be arranged to obtain data useful to answer the main question of this dissertation: how much do the media influence the public opinion on the topic of terrorism?
