This thesis presents and discusses the anabolic substances that are used in the world of bodybuilding and the side effects that these can have on the athletes who use them. Bodybuilders started in the Golden Era period to use these substances but in very low dosages compared to modern bodybuilding. With the Mass Monsters the use of these substances doubled and consequently the side effects in bodybuilders increased. The substances I talked about more specifically are: Testosterone, stanozolol (winstrol), 19-norttestosterone (nandrolone), trenbolone and growth hormone GH. After the description of the doping substances, the side effects are dealt with for women and men who use these substances in the practice of the discipline of body building. The last part describes the dangers in the use of certain drugs citing the extreme cases that have led to the death of some of the most iconic figures in the bodybuilding world.

Questa tesi presenta e discute le sostanze anabolizzanti che si usano nel mondo del culturismo e degli effetti collaterali che questi possono avere sugli atleti che ne fanno uso. I bodybuilder hanno iniziato nel periodo della Golden Era a fare uso di queste sostanze ma in dosaggi molto bassi rispetto al bodybuilding moderno. Con i Mass Monster l’uso di queste sostanze si è duplicato e di conseguenza gli effetti collaterali nei bodybuilder sono aumentati. Le sostanze di cui ho parlato più nello specifico sono: Testosterone, stanozololo (winstrol), 19-norttestosterone (nandrolone), trenbolone ed ormone della crescita GH. Dopo la descrizione delle sostanze dopanti, vengono trattati gli effetti collaterali, per donne e uomini che utilizzano tali sostanze nella pratica della disciplina del body building. L’ultima parte descrive la pericolosità nell’uso di determinati farmaci citando i casi estremi che hanno portato alla morte di alcune delle figure più iconiche del mondo del bodybuilding.
