"L'istruttoria di Peter Weiss. Un resoconto su Auschwitz".

“The investigation” (1965) is a play by German playwright Peter Weiss. The author gathered the material to write the play by the sittings of the Franfkurt trial to which he attended. The play was part of the “Divina Commedia-Project”, which the author never accomplished. In the framework of this trilogy “Die Ermittlung” corresponds to the “Paradise” canticle. In this play the writer retraces the journey faced by every Jewish prisoner of the Auschwitz concentration camp, from the arrival to the train platform until the crematorium. In the chapters of the play, which follow each other just like Dante's circles of Hell, Weiss rebuilds the topography of the camp. The goal of “The investigation” was to deny Adorno's thesis according to which “after Auschwitz” it was no longer possible to write poetry. This goal is shared also by the novel “And Never Said a Word”, by Heinrich Böll, and by the poetry “Death Fugue”, by Paul Celan; these works are briefly presented in the final chapter of my dissertation.

“L'istruttoria” è un'opera del 1965 dello scrittore tedesco Peter Weiss. Egli ricavò il materiale per redigere “L'Istruttoria” dalle molte sedute del processo di Francoforte a cui presenziò. L'opera rientrava nel “Progetto Divina Commedia” mai portato, però, a termine. Nel quadro di questa trilogia “Die Ermittlung” corrisponde alla cantica del “Paradiso”. Nell'opera lo scrittore ripercorre il percorso affrontato da ogni ebreo prigioniero del campo di concentramento di Auschwitz, uno “Häftling”, dall'arrivo alla banchina sino al forno crematorio. Negli 11 canti dell'opera, che si susseguono proprio come i gironi danteschi, Weiss ricostruisce la topografia del campo di Auschwitz. L'obiettivo principale de “L'istruttoria” era smentire la tesi di Adorno secondo cui “dopo Auschwitz” non era più possibile scrivere poesia. Questo è anche l'obiettivo del romanzo “E non disse nemmeno una parola”, di Heinrich Böll, e dalla poesia “Fuga della morte" di Paul Celan; entrambi i lavori sono brevemente descritti nel capitolo conclusivo della mia tesi. ​
