La figura della geisha e la sua percezione nel mondo occidentale

This dissertation deals with the figure of the geisha, who is a Japanese artist born in the XVIII century, and how her figure is perceived in the Western world. Certain prejudices, born because of misunderstandings, associate her figure with the world of prostitution, which is far from her artistic universe. The geisha is a dance, music and traditional japanese singing master, she entertains in private parties, she echants the audience with her permormances. In this dissertation I will analyse the birth and the development of the geisha in Japan, the arrival of her image and fame in the Western world and the reasons which have unfairly led her to be associated as a sex slave.

La presente dissertazione tratta della figura della geisha, artista giapponese nata nel XVIII secolo, e di come viene percepita nel mondo occidentale. Determinati pregiudizi, nati da incomprensioni, la associano al mondo della prostituzione, lontano dal suo universo di arte. La geisha è una maestra della danza, musica e canto tradizionale giapponese, intrattiene in feste private e incanta con le sue esibizioni. In questo elaborato analizzo la nascita e la formazione della geisha in Giappone, l'arrivo della sua immagine e fama in occidente e i percorsi che l'hanno ingiustamente attribuita ad una schiava sessuale.
