Sport e turismo: una riflessione sul valore socio economico dei grandi eventi sportivi. Il caso ATP Finals.

The main aim of the research carried out to elaborate the final thesis of the first cycle of my university degree course is to analyze the sport activity in order to understand the deeper meaning of sport which goes beyond the purely recreational and physical aspect. I have been playing basketball for over ten years and my experience as a professional basketball player has also helped me to acknowledge the advantages and disadvantages of sport in our life. In the first chapter, tracing back its origin in history, a common thread emerged which, although contextualized to different eras and geopolitical realities, revealed the strong impact that sport can have on the individual, society and economy. One of the paragraphs in this section also examines this phenomenon in Italy. In the second chapter, the study focuses on the evolution of sports tourism, both active and passive, with a look at major events and a thorough investigation of the components identified by past experience as necessary for the success of such events. Finally, the third chapter examines a specific event, that of the 2022 ATP finals held in Turin, paying special attention to the economic aspects and then comparing it to other major events. This study has helped me to better understand the influence of sport in society and especially in my own life. The increased knowledge of its positive aspects is an important exhortation for me to keep playing basketball with increasing enthusiasm and more mature awareness.

La ricerca effettuata per elaborare la tesi che conclude il mio primo ciclo di studi universitari, ha avuto come obiettivo primario quello di analizzare l’attività sportiva, che pratico da oltre dieci anni e che ora rappresenta per me un vero lavoro, per comprendere il significato profondo, quello che va oltre l’aspetto puramente ludico e fisico. Nel primo capitolo, ripercorrendo la sua storia sin dalle origini, è emersa la presenza di un filo conduttore contestualizzato alle diverse epoche ed alle realtà geopolitiche: il forte impatto che tale attività ha sull’individuo, sulla società e sull’economia. Un paragrafo esamina tale fenomeno in Italia. Nel secondo capitolo l’indagine si concentra sull’evoluzione del turismo sportivo, sia attivo che passivo, con uno sguardo ai grandi eventi ed un approfondimento delle componenti che l’esperienza ha identificato come necessarie per il successo di tali manifestazioni. Infine il terzo capitolo prende in esame un evento specifico, quello delle ATP Finals del 2022 svoltesi a Torino, ponendo particolare attenzione agli aspetti economici e procedendo ad un’analisi di confronto con altri eventi di grande richiamo. Questo studio mi ha aiutato a comprendere meglio l’influenza dello sport nella società, e in particolar modo nella mia vita. La maggiore conoscenza dei suoi aspetti positivi rappresenta per me un’importante esortazione a continuare il mio impegno con sempre maggiore entusiasmo e più matura consapevolezza.
