The dissertation examines elements influencing legal protection of women in ASEAN member states. A first approach, analyzing national legislation was fundamental to understand the level of normative gaps, addressing women to violence and discrimination patterns. Despite main differences affected by the four waves of action, ASEAN member states share similar gender inequality indicators. The second approach focuses on the analysis of gender disaggregated data in the southeast region by enhancing different systems of legal protection. The third approach considers standard factors in the regional action plan of gender equality to promote legal protection of women in the long term. This research paper suggests that establishing a strong system of coordination in ASEAN with the aim of reducing legal normative gaps and lack of disaggregated data can reduce the levels of gender inequality in the long term.
