The latest social media phenomenon is that of TikTok. How did TikTok gain all this popularity in a rather short amount of time? Why is it considered a controversial phenomenon? What are its effects on today’s society? The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the impact that TikTok had on present-day society and forms of expression. Most specifically, the focus will be on the effects that the “TikTok language” has had and is having on the Italian language.
