L’INTERVENTO PSICOANALITICO GRUPPALE BREVE (BRIEF PSYCHOANALYTIC GROUP – BPG) RIVOLTO A PAZIENTI AFFETTI DA MESOTELIOMA MALIGNO E AI LORO FAMILIARI: UNA RICERCA INTERVENTO

Casale Monferrato, a Piedmontese municipality with a population of 32,069 inhabitants, was the scene of a tragic health event associated with Eternit, a multinational company that produced asbestos-containing materials, mainly used for the production of sheets and panels for building coverings. This event caused the onset and spread of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM), significantly impacting the entire community of Casale Monferrato. Malignant mesothelioma (MM) represents an aggressive form of cancer, often associated with asbestos exposure, which not only poses clinical and therapeutic challenges but also imposes a heavy emotional burden on those affected and their families. Through this thesis, the aim is to explore in detail the psychological aspect connected to the diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma, outlining the peculiarities that characterize the experiences of patients and families and focusing on the analysis of the effectiveness of brief group psychotherapy (BPG) as a possible support tool for affected patients and their families.

Casale Monferrato, comune piemontese con una popolazione di 32.069 abitanti è stato protagonista di una tragica vicenda sanitaria associata all’Eternit una società multinazionale che produceva materiali contenenti amianto, utilizzati principalmente per la produzione di lastre e pannelli di copertura per edifici, che ha causato l’insorgenza e la diffusione del mesotelioma pleurico maligno (MPM) impattando gravemente sull’intera comunità casalese. Il mesotelioma maligno (MM) rappresenta una forma di neoplasia aggressiva, spesso associata all'esposizione all'amianto che non solo impone sfide cliniche e terapeutiche, ma pone anche un pesante fardello emotivo per coloro che ne sono affetti e per le loro famiglie. Attraverso tale tesi si vuole esplorare dettagliatamente l'aspetto psicologico connesso alla diagnosi di mesotelioma maligno, delineando le peculiarità che caratterizzano l'esperienza di pazienti e familiari e soffermandosi sull’analisi dell'efficacia della psicoterapia di gruppo breve (BPG) come possibile strumento di supporto per i pazienti affetti e le loro famiglie.
