Educare alla tutela della libertà di essere: il sex work come strumento di autodeterminazione

The path of research begins with the absolute conviction that my view of reality was the only one and with a book, which showed me how multiple and relative truths can be instead, entitled "Portrait in Strong Colors" by Carla Corso and Sandra Landi. The book in question tells the story of Carla, a sex worker and a leading exponent of the struggles aimed at recognizing the profession of prostitution and obtaining civil rights. The narrative describes sex work as a mere survival choice and, several times, reiterates how emblematic choosing to engage in this profession is in terms of self-determination and empowerment. The battle of Carla and her colleagues will be realized precisely in conveying this to each other; in some cases, the voice of sex workers will reach people's sensibilities, in others, however, it will continue to be seen as a phenomenon connoted by elements of gender violence, prevarication by the male gender. The paper questions why the profession known as the oldest in the world is, even today, the object of insurmountable stigma and prejudice and why the radical feminist movements themselves cannot tolerate that every woman-each in her subjectivity-decides to self-determine freely and in what makes her happiest. Therefore, within this paper there will be, first of all, a historical excursus that will allow us to understand how the profession of the prostitute has been shaped in the various eras, up to the legislation that still governs the profession in our country: the Merlin Law. Moreover, in order to understand the real causes that lead radical feminist women to repudiate sex work-and to consider it as one of the main legacies of patriarchy-I have decided to delve into the topic of radical feminisms starting, again, from its origins to the present day. Although sex work is considered, by Italian legislation, to be legal-despite restrictions on exploitation in prostitution-з sex workers, in the exercise of their profession, are still strongly hinderedз by local governments and the citizenry. The current situation is well described both within the interview administered to sex worker Pia Covre, Chairwoman of the Committee for the Civil Rights of Prostitutes, and through the testimonies reported within the literature reviewed. In conclusion, the dissertation does not present a real answer as to why radical feminist movements condemn sex work; however, it has been reflected on the fact that as a Professional Educator, in the practice of one's profession, one must emulate the struggle of Carla and Pia in order to ensure, for people with fragility incontratз in their professional journey, full personal self-determination.

Il percorso di ricerca inizia dalla convinzione assoluta che la mia visione di realtà fosse l’unica e da un libro, il quale mi ha mostrato quanto invece le verità possono essere molteplici e relative, intitolato “Ritratto a tinte forti” di Carla Corso e Sandra Landi. Il libro in questione racconta la storia di Carla, sex worker e principale esponente delle lotte volte al riconoscimento della professione di prostitutə e all’ottenimento dei diritti civili. La narrazione descrive il lavoro sessuale come una mera scelta di sopravvivenza e, più volte, ribadisce quanto lo scegliere di esercitare tale professione sia emblematico in termini di autodeterminazione ed empowerment. La battaglia di Carla e dellз suз colleghз si realizzerà proprio nel trasmettere questo all’altrə; in alcuni casi, la voce dellз sex workers raggiungerà le sensibilità delle persone, in altri, invece, continuerà ad essere considerato come un fenomeno connotato da elementi di violenza di genere, prevaricazione da parte del genere maschile. L’elaborato si interroga sul perché il mestiere conosciuto come il più antico del mondo è, ancora oggi, oggetto di stigma e pregiudizi insormontabili e sul motivo per cui gli stessi movimenti femministi radicali non riescono a tollerare che ogni donna – ognuna nella sua soggettività – decida di autodeterminarsi liberamente e in quello che la rende più felice. Pertanto, all’interno di questo scritto vi sarà, innanzitutto, un excursus storico che permetterà di comprendere come il mestiere dellə prostitutə si sia plasmato nelle varie epoche, sino ad arrivare alla normativa che tutt’ora governa la professione nel nostro paese: la Legge Merlin. Inoltre, per comprendere le reali cause che spingono le donne femministe radicali a ripudiare il sex work – e a considerarlo come uno dei principali lasciti del patriarcato – ho deciso di approfondire il tema dei femminismi radicali partendo, anche in questo caso, dalle origini per giungere a giorni nostri. Sebbene il lavoro sessuale sia considerato, dalla legislazione italiana, legale – nonostante le restrizioni in materia di sfruttamento alla prostituzione – lз sex workers, nell’esercizio della loro professione, sono ancora fortemente ostacolatз dai governi locali e dalla cittadinanza. La situazione attuale viene ben descritta sia all’interno dell’intervista somministrata alla sex worker Pia Covre, Presidentessa del Comitato dei Diritti Civili delle Prostitute, sia grazie alle testimonianze riportate all’interno della letteratura presa in esame. In conclusione, la dissertazione non presenta una reale risposta sul perché i movimenti femministi radicali condannino il sex work; si è riflettuto, però, sul fatto che come Educatorə Professionali, nell’esercizio della propria professione, si deve emulare la lotta di Carla e Pia, al fine di garantire, alle persone con fragilità incontratз nel proprio cammino professionale, una piena autodeterminazione personale.
