This thesis presents a new critical edition and English translation of the second redaction of Tveggja postula saga Símonis ok Júdass, the Old Norse adaptation of the Latin Virtutes apostolorum Simonis et Iudae [BHL 7749–51]. The research aims at analyzing the formation of the second redaction of the saga through a qualitative analysis of its linguistic and stylistic idiosyncrasies. The study provides an in-depth investigation of the two redactions of Tveggja postula saga Símonis ok Júdass with particularly emphasis on their codicological, literary, and historical contexts, offering new insights into some of the most evident textual adaptations and revision practices that were typical of medieval Norse schools. The first chapter contextualizes the Latin source-text when it appears within the collection known as Virtutes Apostolorum, as well as those cases in which it is treated as a separate text. Later in the study, a first codicological analysis of the manuscripts transmitting Tveggja postula saga Símonis ok Júdass is followed by a source-critical examination of its manuscript filiation. Finally, the last three chapters explore, in turn, the linguistic features of the two redactions, the underlying Latin sources for the prologue and the prose style of the second redaction.
