This thesis examines health inequalities within 18 UK cities and explores the potential contribution of smart projects to their mitigation. After a brief review of existing literature on the determinants of health and the potential role of smart cities, an empirical section is devoted to supporting the objective. This research is based on 2019 data collected by Brown et al. (2020), including scores on a scale of 0 (no plan in use) to 5 (project type in use) for smart projects in 26 UK cities, along with demographic and health data from wave 11 of Understanding Society, the UK's largest longitudinal household study. Through a detailed analysis of these data, including a PCA analysis to identify the key health variable, this study identified key factors influencing health inequality. The results indicate that smart projects, categorized into five types, such as essential services projects, smart transportation projects, broad spectrum projects, business ecosystem projects and open data provider projects, have the potential to mitigate these inequalities, taking into account defined vulnerable segments of the population.

Abstract
The results indicate that smart projects, categorized into five types, such as essential services projects, smart transportation projects, broad spectrum projects, business ecosystem projects and open data provider projects, have the potential to mitigate these inequalities, taking into account defined vulnerable segments of the population.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
