This study examines the phenomenon of corporate growth through acquisitions, focusing on the case of Cogne Acciai Speciali, a company in the steel industry. The primary objective of this thesis is to analyze the strategic motivations, acquisition processes, and long-term effects of such an operation. The work begins by exploring the context of globalization and its impact on the international strategies of businesses, with particular attention to merger and acquisition (M&A) operations in the steel market. Risks and opportunities associated with these operations are also discussed. Subsequently, the steel industry is examined in detail, focusing on key aspects and the growing role of sustainability and new technologies. Future trends that could shape the industry are outlined. The heart of the study consists of the analysis of the Cogne Acciai Speciali case, supported by a research methodology based on interviews conducted with key figures within the company. The characteristics of the company, its market position, and relevant financial data are examined. Additionally, the strategic motivations behind the acquisition by the Taiwanese group Walsin Lihwa Corporation, the challenges faced during the process and the measures taken to overcome them, as well as the long-term implications of the agreement, are explored, sharing the results of the interviews conducted. Finally, the main findings of the thesis are summarized, emphasizing the strategic motivations behind the acquisition of Cogne Acciai Speciali, the long-term impacts on corporate development, and the implications for the steel industry. This study contributes to a better understanding of the role of acquisitions in the steel industry and provides insights for future research. ​

Questo studio esamina il fenomeno della crescita aziendale attraverso le acquisizioni, concentrandosi sul caso di Cogne Acciai Speciali, un'azienda nel settore siderurgico. L'obiettivo principale di questa tesi è analizzare le motivazioni strategiche, i processi di acquisizione e gli effetti a lungo termine di tale operazione.
