Route End: proposta di traduzione e analisi critica del manga di Nakagawa Kaiji

This dissertation focuses on a topic of great interest: manga translation in Italy. The work is divided into three chapters, with the first two comprising the theoretical section, while the third chapter represents the practical analysis. In particular, the first chapter provides a brief and concise overview of the historical evolution of Japanese comics, paying special attention on their visual language. It includes a detailed exploration of the graphic and narrative characteristics of manga, encompassing aspects such as layout, panel arrangement, speech balloons, onomatopoeia, and more. The second chapter shifts attention to the translation of manga in Italy. Here, various approaches and possible strategies for translating this medium are discussed. The third chapter, which represents the practical part of the dissertation, involves a commentary on the translation of "Route End," an unpublished manga in Italy. This final section, explains how the translation work was structured and how the most complex issues of the translation process were addressed.

Il presente elaborato affronta un argomento di grande interesse: la traduzione dei manga in Italia. Il lavoro è diviso tre capitoli, i primi due costituiscono la parte teorica, mentre il terzo rappresenta la parte più pratica dell’analisi. In particolare, nel primo capitolo viene offerta una panoramica breve e concisa dell’evoluzione storica del fumetto giapponese, con particolare enfasi sul suo linguaggio visivo. Questo comprende un’esplorazione dettagliata delle caratteristiche grafiche e narrative dei manga, che abbracciano aspetti come il layout, la disposizione delle vignette, i balloons, l’impiego delle onomatopee e così via. Nel secondo capitolo, l’attenzione si sposta sulla traduzione di manga in Italia. Qui vengono messi in luce anche i diversi approcci e le strategie possibili per la traduzione di questo medium. Il terzo capitolo, che rappresenta la parte pratica dell’elaborato, è il commento traduttologico di Route End, un manga giapponese inedito in Italia. In quest’ultima parte viene spiegato com’è stato impostato il lavoro di traduzione e come sono state affrontate le sfide più complesse del processo traduttivo.
