Research objective: Alibaba has become one of the largest B2B e-commerce company in the world in a short period, under the background of the rapid growing Chinese E-commerce market. This thesis will start to analysis the overall development of Chinese e-commerce industry, along with the development of Alibaba group, to have a brief understanding of how Alibaba built the e-commerce empire with the development of the entire e-commerce industry. Then I will compare the business model of Amazon and Alibaba to understand the differences between the two major e-commerce conmpanies business model in china and the United States, analyze deeply the success factors of Alibaba Group, in order to understand the strategic planning and management of Alibaba group, together with the SWOT analyze of Alibaba. Lastly, I will make the conclusion of the key success factors of Alibaba. Data and methodology: The thesis is a descriptive analysis with some knowledge related to strategic business planning and management, through the analyze of the key successful factors of the company we can easily find out how the company growing up and develop from a small company to a huge enterprise. I use the examples and cases to help to understand and support the analyze and use SWOT analysis to show the advantages, threads, opportunities and weakness of the company, and how does Alibaba act with such advantages and disadvantages. The data collected are mostly textual information from published reports, journals, and articles. The case company information are extracted from its official website and reliable Internet sources, such as Reuters, Bloomberg, Independent auditor's reports etc.
