This thesis focuses on NGOs, on the way they work and on their role and impact on society, firms, regulators and Governments. This work gives an overall but detailed description of what NGOs are, on how they operate in terms of activism and advocacy, focusing also on the reasons that have led to their rise and to their fundamental role in society. This thesis also includes two open interviews, one with Dr. Fiorenzo Martini, a sustainability expert, and the other with Mr. John Sauven, the director of Greenpeace UK. In the course of both interviews all aspects mentioned above are further developed. NGOs have nowadays great influence on social, human, environmental and political matters, and their work is fundamental in order to sensitize people to the many pressing issues affecting our world. Their mission is to fight the violation of rights in different fields, to bring about changes that would lead to a better world. The aim of the thesis is to highlight the importance of non-governmental organizations. In a world where the accumulation of capital seems to be the number one priority, overshadowing even the basic rights, it is important that someone fights to prevent this from happening.
