Unemployment has always been a great social problem, known as having detrimental consequences for the society and for the economy of a country. Youth unemployment in particular seems to be an even more serious issue, especially in an aging society as the European one, where the stability of the social model greatly depends on the capacity of young people to provide for a much more sizeable generation of retired persons. At the end of 2012, the youth unemployment rate in the European Union was worryingly high, reaching a peak of 23.5%, not to mention the fact that in some southern countries such as Spain and Greece, it exceeded 50% . This phenomenon required a prompt intervention from the EU government, which right away responded with the implementation of a European Youth guarantee programme at the beginning of 2013. In this context, the aim of my work is to analyse the features of this project, its implementation and results, with a particular focus on the performance of the programme in Italy.
