Biella district is famous all over the world for its woolen mills and its high quality fabrics. The inhabitants of this mountainous region couldn't make a living with agricultural products so they started to raise sheeps in order to spin and weave wool. Moreover the area was very rich of water courses that were essential for hydropower used in the mills. At the end of 19th century people started to use mechanical looms and thanks to them cloth production increased a lot. After the end of Second World War, the ¿Biellese¿ land knew a huge economic expansion and most of the inhabitants were employed in one of the local woolen mills. Nowadays some mills have lost their fortune due to the low cost fabrics produced in China and in Far East countries. Fast fashion companies such as H&M and Zara require low cost fabrics to make their fashion lines but the greatest tailors in the world are still looking for high standards cloth to make their tailored suits . At the beginning of this crisis period, some entrepreneurs were smart enough to invest in their companies and to specialize in the production of high quality fabrics that can't be produced in the Far East market. As all the children born and grown up in this region, I was surrounded by people working in the fabric field and talking about wool, looms and cloths. This background boosted my interest in tailored suits and menswear. So I decided to apply for an internship at Successori Reda S.p.a. and I was lucky enough to be accepted. Successori Reda S.p.a., also known as ¿Reda¿, is one of the most important wool mills in the world. It was founded in 1865 in Vallemosso ( Biella) by an Italian entrepreneur: Carlo Reda. The company was owned by Reda family until 1919. Then it was sold to Albino e Francesco Botto Poala. In 1968 flood destroyed most of the factories in Biella district but Botto Poala family choose to rebuild Reda mill. At present the company is run by the fourth generation according to the ¿Disney Model¿: the owner is not allowed to choose his child but can only choose one of his nephews as his successor. Abstract
The managing director is Mister Ercole Botto Poala who is supported by his three cousins Francesco (director general), Fabrizio (person in charge of raw materials) and Guglielmo (in charge of South American markets).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
