World Englishes: un'analisi dell'inglese a Singapore

This thesis offers an analysis of the current status of the English language worldwide and the phenomenon of the so-called New Englishes or World Englishes. The aim is to provide a clear overview of the spread of English and the different roles this language can assume in various settings. Furthermore, the relationship between Singapore and the English language is examined and is taken as a case study in order to analyse World Englishes in an outer-circle country. ​

Questa tesi offre un'analisi dell'attuale status della lingue inglese nel mondo e del fenomeno dei cosiddetti New Englishes o World Englishes. Lo scopo è quello di fornire una chiara visione d'insieme sulla diffusione dell'inglese e sui diversi ruoli che questa lingua può assumere nei vari contesti. Inoltre, la relazione tra Singapore e la lingua inglese viene esplorata e presa come caso di studio per analizzare i World Englishes in un paese facente parte del cosiddetto "outer-circle". ​
