«L'uomo si costruisce lavorando»

Maria Montessori was one of the most famous pedagogists in the panorama of the twentieth century. She has revolutionized the educational and scholastic approach by giving importance to aspects that until then were considered irrelevant, such as the relationship between environment and education or the skills acquisition, in autonomous way. The undisputed protagonist for Maria Montessori is the child, an active subject, builder of knowledge and relationships: not only a skilled child, but a man in the making that must be freed from the obstacles that prevent his normal development. This freedom is achieved thanks to a prepared environment, materials useful to his psychic development and concentrated work, which the adult makes possible thanks to his own "spiritual conversion" and to indirect educational operations. The theme of the activities carry out by children thus assumes a central role in Montessorian pedagogy, because it is through of them that the man of tomorrow can realize his fundamental vocation: building himself and the world through work.

Maria Montessori è stata una delle pedagogiste più celebri nel panorama del Novecento. Ha rivoluzionato l’approccio educativo e scolastico dando importanza ad aspetti che fino ad allora erano stati considerati irrilevanti, come ad esempio la relazione tra ambiente ed educazione oppure l’acquisizione di competenze, in modo autonomo. Il protagonista indiscusso per Maria Montessori è il bambino, un soggetto attivo, costruttore di conoscenze e relazioni: non solo un bambino competente, ma un uomo in divenire che deve essere liberato dagli ostacoli che impediscono il suo normale sviluppo. Questa libertà si compie grazie a un ambiente preparato, a materiali funzionali al suo sviluppo psichico e al lavoro concentrato, che l’adulto rende possibile grazie alla propria “conversione spirituale” e ad interventi educativi indiretti. Il tema delle attività svolte dai bambini assume, dunque, un ruolo centrale nella pedagogia montessoriana, poiché è attraverso di esse che l’uomo di domani può realizzare la sua vocazione fondamentale: costruire sé stesso e il mondo grazie al lavoro.
