14 luglio 1948: l’attentato a Togliatti sconvolge l’Italia e la giovane Repubblica è chiamata a una precoce prova di maturità.

Much has been written about the attack on Togliatti, about the possible reasons that would have prompted a young Sicilian student to shoot at the "Best" and the consequences that this act had. The main aim of the author of this thesis is to compare and order chronicles, judgments, ideas of the most important historians and biographers who have dealt with the life of the secretary of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and specifically with this crucial point of his history. By reconstructing the various phases of the story, we will tryto focus attention on some details subject to debate, such as the figure of Antonio Pallante and the sought after men behind him.

Molto è stato scritto riguardo l’attentato a Togliatti, sulle possibili ragioni che avrebbero spinto un giovane studente siciliano a sparare contro il “Migliore” e sulle conseguenze che ebbe tale atto. L’obiettivo che si propone l’autore di questa tesi è confrontare ed ordinare cronache, giudizi, idee dei più importanti storici e biografi che si sono occupati della vita del segretario del Partito Comunista Italiano e, nello specifico, di questo punto cruciale della sua storia. Ricostruendo le varie fasi della vicenda, si cercherà di focalizzare l’attenzione su alcuni particolari che furono oggetto di dibattito, quali la figura di Antonio Pallante ed i suoi tanto ricercati mandanti.
