Crisi della democrazia statunitense e War on Terror: alle origini del nativismo trumpiano

The response to the 9/11 terrorist attack was immediate. Seven days later, on September 18, the first of a long series of widely debated and controversial acts against terrorism - the AUMF - was approved by Congress, which, at the same time, increased presidential powers and undermined the fundamental values and principles of the United States. My intention, through this research, is to describe and interpret the evolution of counter-terrorism policies during the Bush, Obama and Trump presidencies, focusing on the impact they had on American liberal democracy. And how they helped create the ideal context for the rise of a Nativist and Nationalist president like Donald Trump.

La risposta all'attentato terroristico del 9/11 fu immediata. Sette giorni dopo, il 18 settembre, fu approvato dal Congresso il primo di una lunga serie di atti contro il terrorismo - l'AUMF - ampiamente dibattuti e controversi che, al contempo, aumentarono i poteri presidenziali e misero in crisi valori e principi fondamentali degli Stati Uniti. La mia intenzione, attraverso questa ricerca, è quella di descrivere ed interpretare l'evoluzione delle politiche antiterrorismo durante le presidenze di Bush, Obama e Trump, focalizzandomi sull'impatto che ebbero sulla democrazia liberale americana. E su come contribuirono a creare il contesto ideale per l'ascesa di un presidente - nativista e nazionalista- come Donald Trump.
