The purpose of the opening section of the thesis is to provide a concise outline of the areas of intellectual property law, focusing on copyright law and its international common standards while introducing its harmonization in EU law. The second part aims to further illustrate copyright harmonization by presenting the relevant Directives and CJEU cases on the matter, specifically the Information Society Directive and the adoption of a Digital Single Market strategy. The objective of these topics is to provide a thorough background on the Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market, which is the core subject of this thesis. This part summarizes its content and analyses the controversial art. 15 on protection of press publications concerning online uses and art.17 on the use of protected content by online content-sharing service providers. The last part of this dissertation aims to demonstrate the national transposition of the Directive in selected Member States, for, presently, few states have implemented this EU legislative act into national law.
