Tossicodipendenza e HIV: il ruolo dell'educatore in un percorso riabilitativo complesso

This dissertation analyses the theme of addiction and the role of the social worker that covers while performing his/her duties for the rehabilitation of a drug addict person affected by HIV+/AIDS. In the first chapter, the concept of drug addiction is analyzed, beginning by the definition and the deepening of the clinical manifestations of the disorder caused by substance using. About the term drug follows its classification and its history from the early ‘60s to the present day. In the second chapter, it is described the phenomenon of HIV, from its first detected case, to the period of maximum diffusion in the world, happened in the ‘80s and ‘90s, until the development of antiretroviral therapy. A brief is provided on distinctive features that accompany HIV+/AIDS such as chronicity, stigma and death; prevention is therefore fundamental, a commitment that the Fast Track Cities project has as its main goal. The third chapter describes the service Cascina Tario, a foster home for drug addicts and people affected by HIV+/AIDS, located in Andezeno (Torino Province-Italy) and run by Associazione Gruppo Abele ONLUS. The service charter, the tools used by the staff, the activities offered by the service, and the mission are presented. The collaboration of the staff with public health and social services for the referral of the patients to global assistance are also analyzed. A concrete description is provided on a daily routine that intertwines the lives of professional social workers and beneficiaries of the foster home. Finally, the attention is placed on the professional social workers individual competences, the resources put in place by him, the synergies and professional complementarities developed through a teamwork and an educational relationship grown with the patients aiming at guaranteeing the best-achievable outcome from the rehabilitation pathway. This study has the objective of showing not only the theoretical and pratical pedagogical tools put in place by the professional social worker but also the limits of the rehabilitation process of fragile individuals, often, in intricated bureaucratic and administrative situations. Space was given to the emotional involvement that accompany the professional social worker daily in this complex and articulated work. The bibliographic research included books, studies and articles about drug addiction, the HIV+/AIDS virus and the role of the social worker. Website resources consist in materials related to the two phenomena: drug addiction and HIV+/AIDS using the Associazione Gruppo Abele ONLUS website as the main source. Starting from the solid theoretical basis of the (service) Cascina Tario the focus goes to the professional social workers skills in relation to the service itself and their own professional job. This illustration, placing the attention also on the emotional experiences of the professional social worler, has been possible thanks to the personal experience in this community context.

La presente dissertazione analizza il tema della dipendenza e il ruolo che l’educatore professionale riveste nel percorso di cura di una persona tossicodipendente affetta da HIV+/AIDS. Nel primo capitolo viene analizzato il concetto di tossicodipendenza, partendo dalla definizione e dall’approfondimento delle manifestazioni cliniche del disturbo da uso di sostanze. Circa il termine droga viene invece descritta la classificazione e la storia a partire dai primi anni ’60 sino ai giorni nostri. Successivamente è stato introdotto il fenomeno dell’HIV, dal primo caso rilevato, al periodo di massima diffusione nel mondo, avvenuta negli anni ’80 e ’90, fino all’approdo della terapia antiretrovirale. Un breve accenno è volto ad elementi caratteristici come la cronicità, lo stigma e la morte che accompagnano questa malattia: è perciò fondamentale la prevenzione, impegno che il progetto Fast Track Cities ha come obiettivo principale. Il terzo capitolo vuole presentare il servizio Cascina Tario, la Casa Alloggio per tossicodipendenti affetti da HIV+/AIDS dell’Associazione Gruppo Abele ONLUS, sita ad Andezeno. Ne vengono presentate la carta del servizio, gli strumenti utilizzati dagli operatori, le attività che il progetto offre e le finalità del servizio. Vengono inoltre analizzati i servizi sanitari e sociali con cui l’équipe della struttura collabora al fine di una complessiva presa in carico dell’ospite. Si descrive l’organizzazione, a livello concreto e quotidiano, del servizio che coinvolge e intreccia la vita di operatori e ospiti. Infine viene posta l’attenzione sulle competenze dell’educatore, le risorse messe in campo dal professionista ed in particolar modo la stretta collaborazione con l’equipe multidisciplinare entro la quale opera e la relazione educativa coltivata con gli ospiti in un’ottica di accompagnamento nel percorso. Il presente studio si è posto l'obiettivo non solo di mostrare gli strumenti pedagogici, teorici e pratici messi in campo dall’educatore professionale, ma anche le criticità del lavoro educativo rivolto a persone fragili e in situazioni burocratiche e gestionali spesso complesse. È inoltre stato dato spazio al coinvolgimento emotivo e alle sensazioni che accompagnano l’operatore nella quotidianità di un lavoro tanto articolato e complesso. La ricerca bibliografica si è concretizzata nella presa visione di libri e articoli sul tema della tossicodipendenza, sul virus dell’HIV/AIDS e sul ruolo dell’educatore. La sitografia si compone invece di materiali relativi ai fenomeni di tossicodipendenza e infezione da HIV/AIDS, avendo come fonte prevalente il sito internet dell’Associazione Gruppo Abele ONLUS. Partendo dalle solide basi teoriche del servizio Cascina Tario, si è riflettuto sulle competenze dell’educatore in relazione ad esso e più in generale, nel proprio operato professionale. Tale illustrazione, ponendo l’attenzione anche sui vissuti emotivi del professionista, è stata resa possibile dalla personale esperienza all’interno di questo contesto comunitario.
