Cyrano de Bergerac: da libertino parigino a personaggio della commedia di Rostand

This thesis analyses Edmond Rostand's comedy dedicated to Cyrano de Bergerac, a historical character who really existed in 17th century France. Through an investigation of the character, the first chapter of the thesis will deal with the various facets of his private life, education, personality and work as a libertine thinker, poet, playwright and novelist. Subsequently, some of his most important works will be analysed, including La Mort d'Agrippine, Histoire comique des États et Empires de la Lune and Histoire comique des États et Empires du Soleil, Le Pédant Joué and the Lettres. The second chapter of the thesis will be dedicated to Edmond Rostand and his play Cyrano de Bergerac. In detail, it will examine the theatrical figure of Cyrano, who is represented by Rostand as an emblem of romantic heroism and the search for true love beyond physical appearances.

La presente tesi di laurea analizza l’opera teatrale di Edmond Rostand dedicata a Cyrano de Bergerac, un personaggio storico e realmente esistito nella Francia del XVII secolo. Attraverso un’indagine sul personaggio, nel primo capitolo della tesi si affronteranno le diverse sfaccettature della sua vita privata, dell’educazione, della personalità e del suo lavoro come pensatore libertino, poeta, drammaturgo e romanziere. Successivamente si procederà ad analizzare alcune delle sue opere più importanti, tra cui La Mort d’Agrippine, Histoire comique des États et Empires de la Lune e Histoire comique des États et Empires du Soleil, Le Pédant Joué e le Lettres. Il secondo capitolo della tesi sarà dedicato ad Edmond Rostand ed alla sua commedia intitolata Cyrano de Bergerac. Nel dettaglio, si esaminerà la figura teatrale di Cyrano che viene rappresentato da Rostand come emblema dell'eroismo romantico e della ricerca del vero amore al di là delle apparenze fisiche.
