NFT e Tecnologia Blockchain: un quadro generale

NFTs represent one of the latest innovation in the crypto environment. Despite dating back to 2012, they have become popular only recently. Nowadays, NFTs are not anymore only for crypto-enthusiast. Several public figures and a few major corporations have discovered their potential and are taking advantage of it. Nevertheless, this new form of digital assets is still a niche product and its popularity is spreading very slowly. By making use of actual cases, this thesis aims at presenting the most relevant applications of NFTs, after explaining the technology behind them. The paper starts by describing the functioning of Blockchain Technology, taking Ethereum as an example. Then, it carries on by introducing smart contracts and describing the different kinds of digital tokens. Finally, after pointing out the characteristics of successful NFT projects, the study provides some examples of how NFTs are currently being used in the gaming, music, sports, and real estate industries. This thesis has been written by collecting information and data from the websites and research papers listed in the bibliography section.
