I libri in simboli: analisi dei benefici nei bambini con Disturbi dello Spettro Autistico

The paper reports the effectiveness of Augmentative and Alternative Communication used for the realization of books written in symbols, which indicate the benefits observed in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. At first, there is the definition of the strategy of Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It is important because allows who have difficulties, to communicate, each using the tool, the aid or strategy most appropriate to its capabilities, known thanks to previous checks made using specific tools. An important form of Augmentative and Alternative Communication are symbols, analyzed in the production of books. Books in symbols encourage the development of different skills in children such as language, thinking, increasing vocabulary and active participation. The criteria used for their construction are: the choice of the topic, the reference models, the sentence structure, the translation into symbols, the illustrations and the physical structure of the book. There are also analyze the reading modes, with particular reference to modeling. The analysis proceeds with the relationship between the use of these books in symbols and children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The diagnosis of this Neurodevelopmental disorders is based on the criteria illustrated in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. There are also analysed the increasingly widespread epidemiology, the etiology not yet certain and with multiple factors, the various intervention therapies to improve this disorder, having known the main features. Therefore highlighting the main deficits of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, the benefits of using books in symbols for language development in language comprehension skills, lexical and semantic and in the participation in class activity with the improvement of joint attention and social interaction are analyzed. Reading is a right for all children. For this reason the dissemination of books in symbols within libraries is analyzed to allow all children, without disabilities too, to access it. These books are being transformed from simple books to symbols IN-book.

L’elaborato riporta l’efficacia della Comunicazione Aumentativa Alternativa utilizzata per la realizzazione dei libri scritti in simboli, dei quali vengono indicati i benefici osservati nei bambini con Disturbi dello Spettro Autistico. Inizialmente viene presentata la definizione della strategia della Comunicazione Aumentativa Alternativa, evidenziando la sua importanza nel consentire a coloro che hanno difficoltà, di comunicare, utilizzando ciascuno lo strumento, l’ausilio o la strategia più adeguata alle proprie capacità, conosciute grazie a verifiche precedenti avvenute con l’utilizzo di strumenti precisi. Un’importante forma di Comunicazione Aumentativa Alternativa è quella dei simboli, analizzata nella produzione di libri. I libri in simboli favoriscono lo sviluppo di diverse capacità nei bambini quali il linguaggio, il pensiero, l’incremento del vocabolario e la partecipazione attiva. Vengono analizzati i criteri utilizzati per la loro costruzione: la scelta dell’argomento, i modelli di riferimento, la struttura della frase, la traduzione in simboli, le illustrazioni e la struttura fisica del libro. Si analizzano anche le modalità di lettura, con particolare riferimento al modeling. L’analisi procede con la relazione tra l’utilizzo di questi libri in simboli e i bambini con Disturbi dello Spettro Autistico. Viene presentata la diagnosi di questo disturbo del Neurosviluppo, basato sui criteri illustrati nel Manuale diagnostico e statistico dei disturbi mentali, l’epidemiologia sempre più diffusa, l’eziologia non ancora certa e dovuta a molteplici fattori, l’esordio e le varie terapie di intervento per migliorare questo disturbo, avendo note le principali caratteristiche. Evidenziando dunque i principali deficit dei bambini con Disturbi dello Spettro Autistico, si analizzano i benefici dell’utilizzo dei libri in simboli per lo sviluppo del linguaggio nelle abilità linguistiche di comprensione, lessicali e semantiche e nella partecipazione all’attività di classe con il miglioramento dell’attenzione congiunta e dell’interazione sociale. Essendo la lettura un diritto di tutti i bambini, viene analizzata infine la diffusione dei libri in simboli all’interno delle biblioteche per permettere a tutti i bambini, anche senza disabilità, di accedervi, trasformandosi dunque da semplici libri in simboli in IN-book.
