Restauro e valorizzazione del frammento di pavimento musivo romanico con busto di giovanenimbato proveniente dal duomo di Novara

This Master's thesis work concerns the study and restoration of a mosaic fragment from the Romanesque period from the ancient cathedral of Novara. Originally belonging to the mosaic floor that covered the cathedral, the work was detached in the nineteenth century and relocated to the convent of Santa Lucia. The work undertaken in this project has allowed us to reconstruct the conservative history of the building, characterized by various renovations, which have become of fundamental importance in the overall interpretation of the work. The restoration was conducted on the basis of the principle of minimal intervention, in order to recover the legibility of the tessellation and ensure its conservation and use, thanks to the creation of a support that is detached from the back surface.

Il presente elaborato di Tesi Magistrale riguarda lo studio e l’intervento di restauro di un frammento musivo di epoca romanica proveniente dall’antico duomo di Novara. Appartenente in origine al pavimento musivo che ricopriva la cattedrale, l’opera venne staccata nel XIX secolo e ricollocata presso il convento di Santa Lucia. Il lavoro affrontato in questo progetto ha permesso di ricostruire la storia conservativa del manufatto, caratterizzato da diversi interventi di rifacimento, divenuti di fondamentale importanza nella lettura d’insieme dell’opera. L’intervento di restauro è stato condotto sulla base del principio del minimo intervento, al fine di recuperare la leggibilità del tassellato e garantire la sua conservazione e fruizione, grazie la realizzazione di un supporto svincolato dalla superficie del retro.
