This work aims to show the evolution of Pulp genre and its historical development. The history of Pulp genre starts in the USA at the beginning of the 20th century, with the first folk story magazines, called Pulp magazines, which marked the dawn of the Pulp genre and, most importantly, a new way of making literature and publishing industry. Moreover the factors which led to the creation of these magazines are investigated. We then analyze the work of Charles Bukowski, the writer who has brought prestige to pulp literature, more than anyone else. In addition, two comparisons are proposed, namely between Bukowski and the Beat Generation first, and then between the same author and the French poet Charles Baudelaire. From latter comparison, the concept of ¿pulpspleen¿ is introduced. This expression aims to synthesize and define Bukowski's poetic works and it represents the most original and innovative part of this thesis. This article also focuses on the last one of Bukowski's works, ¿Pulp¿, and tries to give information about the writing, the plot and its meaning. From the American literature's world, we then move onto the American cinema of the 20th century, paying attention especially to Quentin Tarantino and his ¿Pulp Fiction¿ movie ¿ winner of the Palme D'or in 1994 - that gave notoriety to the genre. We will also speak about themes like violence and the corresponding language wherewith it has been introduced in the global collective imaginary. In the last part we pay attention to the repercussions of pulp genre and its manifestations in Italy. In particular we focus on a group of young writers called "i cannibali", who rose to fame in 1996, thanks to their "Gioventù Cannibale": the first deep horror Italian anthology. They use new forms of language, hybridized by the relationship between them and the mass media (radio, television, cinema, literature, music, comics). Finally we formulate some hypothesis related to the interpretation of this phenomenon. The presented work is based on the relation between pulp genre and mass culture, and tries to follow a path that starts from the birth of this genre, to this age and days: a visionary trip on the border of our contemporary imagination.

Abstract
The presented work is based on the relation between pulp genre and mass culture, and tries to follow a path that starts from the birth of this genre, to this age and days: a visionary trip on the border of our contemporary imagination.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
