Annullamento della dignità umana in Se questo è un uomo e Intellettuale ad Auschwitz

The aim of this thesis is to analyse the plan developed by the Nazis in order to destroy the identity and the human dignity of Jews, along with the description of the physical and psychological consequences that this destruction entails on its victims. Starting from a reflection on the difficulties of writing about concentration camps, I will then go on outlining the various stages of this process of annihilation towards the Jewish people, according to the different point of view of Primo Levi and Jean Améry. Finally, I will also describe how survivors managed to reconstruct their identity and to take back their human dignity after being released from the concentration camp.

Lo scopo di questa tesi è l'analisi dei meccanismi adoperati dai nazisti per distruggere ed annullare l'identità e la dignità umana degli ebrei, insieme alla descrizione delle conseguenze fisiche e psicologiche che questa distruzione comporta nelle vittime. Partendo da una riflessione sulle difficoltà di scrivere sul Lager e rappresentare l'orrore, si prosegue delineando le varie tappe del processo di annullamento degli ebrei come persone operato dai tedeschi, secondo le diverse prospettive di Primo Levi e Jean Améry; per concludere invece in maniera positiva con il riscatto dei sopravvissuti ai campi di concentramento e il loro ricostruirsi una propria dignità umana.
