I realia come motivo di interesse e ostacolo in traduzione: l'analisi dell'edizione italiana di Die Birnen von Ribbeck di F.C. Delius

The analysis of The Pears of Ribbeck, a Wendeliteratur story published in 1991 by Friedrich Christian Delius, focuses on realia, the untranslatables par excellence. In this work, the importance of the culture-specific terms and expressions in a text, in this case a literary text, emerges in addition to what and how many difficulties arise during the translation. In the translating process of culturemes, indeed, cultural material, and not linguistic material, is transferred, for this reason, it is fundamental for a translator to have a wide knowledge of the culture of the foreign language in addition to the foreign language itself. This work begins indeed with a theoretical framework that is useful in order to contextualize the literary trend (and therefore part of the German history), the author, the literary work and realia in linguistics; then, the actual analysis, based on the categorization of the culture-specific elements, i.e. identifying them and classifying them into categories that are useful to define them, and the critique to the translation, introduced by the translating strategies for rendering the culturemes and consisting of considerations and alternative translating proposals regarding the Italian edition of the literary work, follow. As a result of this analysis, it emerges that a “right” unique method for rendering realia in translation does not exist and that the distance between two languages and cultures plays an important role in the comprehension of the culture-specific elements so much in the source text as in the target text.

L'analisi della Ballata di Ribbeck, racconto della Wendeliteratur pubblicato nel 1991 da Friedrich Christian Delius, ha il suo focus sui realia, gli intraducibili per eccellenza. Nel corso dello studio emerge quale importanza i termini e le espressioni culturospecifici rivestono in un testo, in questo caso letterario, e quali e quante difficoltà sorgono in traduzione per la loro resa. Nel processo traduttivo dei culturemi viene infatti trasferito materiale culturale, non linguistico, il che rende fondamentale da parte del traduttore avere un'ampia conoscenza della cultura, oltre che della lingua, straniera. La dissertazione si apre infatti con un quadro teorico utile a inquadrare la corrente letteraria (e quindi parte della storia della Germania), l'autore, l'opera e i realia in linguistica, a cui seguono l'analisi vera e propria, basata sulla categorizzazione degli elementi culturospecifici, ovvero la loro individuazione e classificazione in categorie utili a definirli, e la critica alla traduzione, introdotta dalle strategie traduttive per la resa dei realia, che consiste in considerazioni e proposte traduttive alternative riguardanti l'edizione italiana dell'opera. Da questa analisi emerge come non esista un unico metodo “giusto” per la resa dei realia in traduzione e come la lontananza tra due lingue e culture giochi un ruolo importante per la comprensione degli elementi culturospecifici tanto nel testo di partenza quanto nel testo di arrivo.
