THINK SMART, ACT SMART: EUROPEAN INITIATIVES FOR SMART CITIES AND SMART TOURISM

The final dissertation aims to outline the importance of smart cities in the globalization era and, in particular, to explain how they are part of the European context and how they can help smart tourism's achievement. The definition of "smart" is provided both for cities and tourism since they are the main topics of the work, and several initiatives created by the European Commission are shown and fully explained. Today, smart cities and smart tourism are able to provide accessibility, digitalization, creativity and sustainability for citizens and visitors, thus creating a value-add for European cities. Member States and European Commission have been working together in order to make Europe a safer and greener place to live in and to visit, and to make it one of the best tourism destinations all over the world.
