Il fantastico e il tempo in "El Sur" di Jorge Luis Borges e "La noche boca arriba" di Julio Cortázar: una proposta di analisi comparata.

This dissertation offers a comparative analysis of "El Sur" by Jorge Luis Borges and "La noche boca arriba" by Julio Cortázar. The aim is to highlight how these writers use the same tools for the construction of the fantastic in their respective stories. This analysis lays its basis on a formalist approach, underlining the use of the same morphological functions in the two texts as well as their binary structure and the presence of some typical motifs of fantastic narratives: the relationship between dream and wakefulness, the story within the story, the double and time travel. Particular attention is given to time as an element that allows the fantastic to enter the stories and justifies their binary structure. The two texts do indeed present a break in the temporal linearity of the narration, which coincides with the beginning of a second possible narrative world, which can be interpreted as the story of a journey through time.

La presente dissertazione offre un’analisi comparata di “El Sur” di Jorge Luis Borges e “La noche boca arriba” di Julio Cortázar. L’obiettivo è evidenziare come i due scrittori ricorrano agli stessi strumenti per la costruzione del fantastico nei rispettivi racconti. Tale analisi è condotta utilizzando un approccio formalista, sottolineando l’uso delle stesse funzioni morfologiche nei due testi, oltre a una loro struttura binaria e alla presenza di alcuni motivi tipici delle narrazioni fantastiche: il rapporto tra sogno e veglia, il racconto nel racconto, il doppio e il viaggio nel tempo. Particolare attenzione viene data al tempo come elemento che permette l’ingresso del fantastico nei due racconti e ne giustifica la struttura binaria. I due testi, infatti, presentano entrambi una rottura della linearità temporale della narrazione, la quale coincide con l’inizio di un secondo mondo narrativo possibile. Quest’ultimo si può interpretare come il racconto di un viaggio nel tempo.
