Éilís Ní Dhuibhne is an Irish writer and folklorist. Her work is characterised by diversity: she writes both in English and Irish, she produces novels, short fiction, drama, and children's fiction. Her experience as a folklorist can be recognised in her writing. This thesis considers the reference to folklore and traditional tales in the author's short stories. Her synthesis of past and present, tradition and modernity, gives an idea of continuity between these two entities and at the same time function as a strategy of indirection. The writer exploits her knowledge in Irish culture to express her point of view on social issues and on the female experience. Her commitment to portray social injustice and controversial topics makes her writing poignant in contemporary Ireland.
