Oscar Wilde e Christopher Marlowe due secoli e due prospettive diverse, come la società incide sulle vite e sulle opere degli autori della letteratura inglese

I chose to examine the impact that society had in the lives and works of Christopher Marlowe and Oscar Wilde. The thesis is structured in three chapters. The first one is an introduction to Marlowe's life and to the centrality of the relationship between Edward II and Gaveston in the play Edward II. The section that follows deals with the life of Oscar Wilde and the long love letter entitled De Profundis written by Wilde for his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas. This chapter is not an analysis of the letter itself; rather, it explains how the De Profundis was important for the author and how his life changed after his two-year imprisonment in Reading Goal. The final chapter discusses differences between the two authors lives and examines the ways in which the perception of homosexuality has changed over the centuries.
