Bees, an exemplary society in "The Beekeeper of Aleppo" and "The Year of the Flood"

The main topic of this dissertation is the role of bees in literature. In particular, I am going to examine two novels: The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri and The Year of The Flood by Margert Atwood. Both books are part of a modern field of literary study: Ecocriticism, which is going to be the explained in the introduction together with notions of Anthropocene, animals in literature, the importance of bees in the environment and in literature. The aims of this dissertation are to expose the risks of an unhealthy environment, to underline the role of ecocritical literature in the present days situation and to emphasise the loss of empathy with our planet.
