Nowadays, cities all over the world are in a continuous state of flux and exhibit complex dynamics. As they grow, city planners devise complex systems to deal with energy supplies on an international scale, water supplies over long distances, local waste disposal, urban traffic management systems, and so on; the quality of all such urban inputs defines the quality of life of urban dwellers. Notwithstanding the enormous formidable challenges and disadvantages associated with urban agglomerations, the world population has been steadily concentrating in cities. Problems associated with urban agglomerations have usually been solved by means of creativity, human capital, cooperation (sometimes bargaining) among relevant stakeholders, and bright scientific ideas: in a nutshell, “smart” solutions. In recent years more and more studies, practical appliances, and researches are redacted regarding industry 4.0, Internet of Things, and other new technologies about to revolutionize the world as it is known. This paper aim to observe more closely to such phenomenon and present an integrative framework over the applications of Industry 4.0 in Smart Cities context.
