THE BEST OF BOTH WOR(L)DS - La ricerca dell'equivalenza della traduzione nel caso specifico delle frasi idiomatiche

The thesis focuses on translation and its evolution in history that has led it to become a science. We expose the problems that the translator encounters in drafting his work, specifically the problem of equivalence that only a professional figure with a complete knowledge of the language of the source text and that of the target text, in this case respectively English and Italian, can ensure an optimal translation. In addition, we explore the task of the translator who, on the basis of the cultural heritage of the two languages at issue, makes a precise choice of the words to use, to mediate culturally between the two countries. ​

La tesi ha come oggetto la traduzione e la sua evoluzione nella storia che l'ha portata a diventare una scienza. Vengono esposti i problemi che il traduttore incontra nella stesura del suo elaborato, nello specifico il problema dell'equivalenza che soltanto una figura professionale con una completa conoscenza della lingua del source text e quella del target text, in questo caso rispettivamente inglese e italiano, può garantire una traduzione ottimale. Inoltre, si analizza il compito del traduttore che, in base al retaggio culturale delle due lingue in questione, compie una precisa scelta delle parole da utilizzare, per mediare culturalmente tra i due paesi. ​
