Epos biblico nei racconti langaroli di Beppe Fenoglio

This thesis aims to demonstrate the presence of a biblical matrix in the peasant tales, set in Langhe, of Beppe Fenoglio. The path traced is divided into two main parts: the first is designed to reconstruct the relationship between the writer and religion; the second, on the other hand, analyzes the scriptural situations and images that emerge from the reading of the stories. Specifically, the first part retraces on one side the life choices of Fenoglio, who professed to be a layman, but continuously in contact with the religious backgrounds of Alba; on the other side, it investigates the origins of the deep knowledge of the Bible that characterizes the writer. From here three fundamental threads emerge to outline Fenoglio's spirituality: the affinity with Protestant and Puritan ideology, that is always to be considered in a historical way; the bonds of friendship with the most illustrious personalities on the Alba scene of the time, who are also innovative interpreters of the Bible, such as Chiodi, Corsini, Don Bussi and Msgr. Rossano; the love for seventeenth-century English literature and for authors such as Donne, Milton and Bunyan, who are very carefull about the Holy Scriptures. The second part of the work includes the tales in which biblical suggestions are more evident, also underlining the Infernal or Edenic elements that cross them. In doing so, the thesis expressed by Marialuigia Sipione in “Beppe Fenoglio e la Bibbia”, according to which Fenoglio uses the scriptural elements only in the works of resistance argument, is refuted. Finally, a section is dedicated to the film screenplay project, not concluded by the writer due to early death, but full of biblical references, such as the fratricidal struggle between Cain and Abel, that Fenoglio transposes into the Langhe.

La tesi indaga la presenza di una matrice biblica all'interno dei racconti contadino-langaroli di Beppe Fenoglio. Il lavoro si articola in due parti principali: la prima è volta a ricostruire il rapporto tra lo scrittore e la religione; la seconda invece analizza le situazioni e le immagini scritturali che emergono dalla lettura dei racconti. Nello specifico, la prima parte ripercorre da un lato le scelte di vita di Fenoglio, professatosi laico, ma continuamente a contatto con gli ambienti religiosi albesi; dall'altro lato indaga le origini della profonda conoscenza della Bibbia che caratterizza lo scrittore. Di qui emergono tre fili conduttori fondamentali per delineare gli interessi religiosi di Fenoglio: l'affinità con l'ideologia protestante e puritana, sempre da considerarsi in chiave storica; i legami d'amicizia con le personalità più illustri dello scenario albese dell'epoca, nonché interpreti innovativi della Bibbia, come Chiodi, Corsini, don Bussi e monsignor Rossano; l'amore per la letteratura inglese secentesca e per autori come Donne, Milton e Bunyan, molto attenti alle Sacre Scritture. La seconda parte del lavoro affronta i racconti in cui le suggestioni bibliche sono maggiormente evidenti, sottolineando anche gli elementi infernali o edenici che li attraversano. Viene così confutata la tesi espressa da Marialuigia Sipione in “Beppe Fenoglio e la Bibbia”, secondo cui Fenoglio declinerebbe gli elementi scritturali soltanto nelle opere di argomento resistenziale. Infine, una sezione è dedicata al progetto di sceneggiatura cinematografica, non concluso dallo scrittore a causa della morte precoce, ma denso di riferimenti biblici, come la lotta fratricida tra Caino e Abele che Fenoglio traspone nello scenario delle Langhe.
