Pronomi allocutivi usati dai parlanti e percezione di familiarità: come lingua e cultura si riflettono l'una nell'altra

The intent of this paper is to demonstrate how language and culture influence each other. Specifically, we chose to analyze this theme through the study of the allocutive pronouns of three languages which show a very different way of use about them: Italian, English and Portuguese. The idea is to demonstrate how the use of formal allocutive pronouns increases the distance that the speaker who chooses them perceives towards his interlocutor and how, therefore, formal allocutive pronouns are the result of a strongly stratified society, while the increasingly widespread use of the informal allocutive pronoun depends on the fact that modern society is more ethical and egalitarian. My dissertation is divided into 3 chapters: - in the first section, various linguistic theories related to the use of allocutive pronouns are analysed; - in the second, the synchronous and diachronic aspects of the Italian, English and Portuguese allocutive pronouns are analysed; - the third contains an analysis of the data collected through three questionnaires whom object is to analyse the relationship between the chosen allocutive pronoun and the perception of formality in native Italian, English and Portuguese speakers.

L'intento di questo elaborato è quello di dimostrare come lingua e cultura si influenzino a vicenda. Nello specifico, si è scelto di analizzare questo tema attraverso lo studio dei pronomi allocutivi di tre lingue che ne presentano un uso ben differente: italiano, inglese e portoghese. L'idea è quella di dimostrare come l'uso di pronomi allocutivi formali aumenti la distanza che il parlante che li sceglie percepisce nei confronti del suo interlocutore e come quindi i pronomi allocutivi formali siano frutto di una società fortemente stratificata, mentre il sempre più diffuso uso del pronome allocutivo informale dipenda dal fatto che la società moderna risulti più etica ed egualitaria. La mia dissertazione si divide in 3 capitoli: - nel primo vengono analizzate varie teorie linguistiche relative all'uso dei pronomi allocutivi; - nel secondo vengono analizzati aspetti sincronici e diacronici dei pronomi allocutivi italiani, inglesi e portoghesi; - il terzo contiene l'analisi dei dati raccolti attraverso tre questionari rivolti ad analizzare la relazione tra pronome allocutivo scelto e percezione di formalità in parlanti nativi italiani, inglesi e portoghesi.
