First- and second-person subject pronouns in Steve Jobs' and Tim Cook's keynotes: A corpus-assisted study

Questa tesi tratta l'analisi e la comparazione dei due discorsi pronunciati dai dirigenti Apple Steve Jobs e Tim Cook nelle presentazioni del 2007 e nel 2016. Nei loro discorsi, hanno entrambi introdotto il lancio di nuovi prodotti tecnologici al fine di catturare l'attenzione del pubblico. Lo scopo di questa tesi è quello di analizzare e confrontare i due discorsi, con particolare attenzione all'uso dei pronomi personali. Questa tesi mette in evidenza l'importanza di queste risorse linguistiche e esamina i fattori che determinano le principali differenze tra i metodi di comunicazione dei due dirigenti.

This thesis deals with the analysis and comparison of two speeches delivered by Apple CEOs Steve Jobs and Tim Cook in the Apple Conferences in 2007 and 2016. In their presentations, they both introduced the launch of new technological products and used rhetorical strategies in order to catch the audience's attention. My aim in this dissertation is to analyse and compare the two speeches, focusing on the use of personal pronouns. This thesis highlights the importance of these linguistic resources and investigates the factors that determine the main differences between the CEO's ways of communicating.
