Der Europäische Landbote di Robert Menasse. Traduzione, analisi e commento.

The thesis focuses on the translation from German into Italian of the political essay ¿Der Europäische Landbote¿ by Robert Menasse, Austrian writer and winner of the European Book Prize 2015. The first part of the comment concerns theories and concepts about translation and stages of the translation process (reading, research, draft and review), which I have experienced during the translation of the essay. Furthermore, a macro-textual analysis of the text is displayed for a deep analysis of the essay's context (writer, text type, function, addressee and purpose of the translation). The following part focuses on a micro-textual analysis, with a section dedicated to the title's choice ¿Il Messaggero Europeo¿, clear reference to Georg Büchner's ¿Der Hessische Landbote¿ (¿The Hessian Courier¿), whose spirit is traced by Menasse. In the micro-textual analysis, some examples about translation strategies on lexical level are discussed (culturemes, compounds, neologism, acronyms, wordplays and idiomatic expressions), followed by a comparison with the strategies adopted in the English and French translations of this essay. In addition, also some examples about translation strategies on morphosyntactic level (syntax, verb tenses) and on textual level (marked structures, punctuation and editorial conventions) are reported and discussed.

La tesi si concentra sulla proposta di traduzione in italiano del saggio politico ¿Der Europäische Landbote¿ di Robert Menasse, autore austriaco e vincitore del Premio del Libro europeo 2015. La prima parte del commento è dedicata ad alcuni contributi teorici sulla traduzione e alla descrizione delle fasi del processo traduttivo (lettura, ricerca, prima stesura e revisione) che hanno accompagnato il lavoro. In seguito viene proposta un'analisi macrotestuale del testo (autore, tipo di testo, funzione, scopo della traduzione e destinatari) per inquadrare il contesto del saggio e valutare una possibile traduzione italiana. Segue un capitolo sull'analisi microtestuale del saggio, dove è anche presente una parte dedicata alla scelta del titolo ¿Il Messaggero Europeo¿, motivato dal confronto con il saggio ¿Der Hessische Landbote¿ (¿Il Messaggero Assiano¿) di Georg Büchner, di cui Menasse riprende lo spirito. Nell'analisi microtestuale sono riportati alcuni esempi di strategie traduttive adottate a livello lessicale (realia, composti, termini connotati, neologismi, acronimi, giochi di parole ed espressioni idiomatiche), accompagnate da un confronto con le scelte della traduzione inglese e francese del saggio. Inoltre, sono riportati anche alcuni esempi di strategie traduttive adottate a livello morfosintattico (sintassi, tempi verbali) e a livello testuale (strutture marcate, punteggiatura, convenzioni redazionali).
