Lo slut shaming: origini, caratteristiche e problematicità da una prospettiva sociologica ​

La mia tesi si propone di esplorare il fenomeno dello slut shaming da una prospettiva sociologica. Nel primo capitolo, l’elaborato si avvia con una definizione approfondita del fenomeno in esame, mettendo in luce le problematiche che crea questa tipologia di linguaggio volgare e sessista, andando a contribuire a un’ennesima discriminazione del genere femminile o delle minoranze sessuali. Successivamente, viene tracciato un breve excursus sull'origine e sull'evoluzione del termine slut shaming fino ai giorni attuali. Tale analisi è seguita da un'indagine sul ruolo che questo fenomeno assume nella contemporaneità, esaminando le motivazioni alla base del suo utilizzo e le circostanze in cui si palesa. Viene inoltre accennata la funzione della manifestazione slutwalk, del suo inizio e delle sue conseguenze. Il capitolo si conclude con uno sguardo specifico alla situazione italiana, evidenziando il fatto che il termine non è ancora ampiamente riconosciuto dalla popolazione. Il secondo capitolo analizza lo slut shaming nella sfera mediatica, con un focus particolare sui social network, ed esplora il legame tra slut shaming e cyberbullismo sessualizzato. Il capitolo termina con un'analisi sull’umorismo sessista online, il quale viene esaminato attraverso esempi concreti al fine di interrogarsi sulle motivazioni sottese alla produzione di battute e scherzi a sfondo sessista. Il terzo capitolo presenta i risultati di una ricerca sociale condotta su delle classi del triennio di un liceo di Savona. Attraverso l'impiego di un questionario somministrato a 57 studenti, l'obiettivo è scoprire quanti di loro sono consapevoli del concetto di slut shaming, se viene percepito nella vita quotidiana e quali sono i termini o le espressioni volgari e sessiste che hanno ricevuto, percepito o utilizzato nei confronti di altre persone.

My thesis aims to explore the phenomenon of 'slut shaming' from a sociological perspective. In the first chapter, the paper begins with an in-depth definition of the phenomenon under examination, highlighting the problems that this type of vulgar and sexist language creates, contributing to further discrimination against female gender and sexual minorities. Subsequently, a brief overview of the origin and evolution of the term 'slut shaming' up to the present day is provided. This analysis is followed by an investigation into the role that this phenomenon plays in contemporary society, examining the motivations underlying its use and the circumstances in which it manifests. The function of the “slutwalk” demonstration, its beginnings, and its consequences are also mentioned. The chapter concludes with a specific look at the Italian situation, highlighting the fact that the term is not yet widely recognized by the population. The second chapter analyzes slut shaming in the media sphere, with a particular focus on social networks, and explores the link between slut shaming and sexualized cyberbullying. The chapter ends with an analysis of online sexist humor, which is examined through concrete examples to question the underlying motivations for the production of sexist jokes and comments. The third chapter presents the results of a social research conducted among upper secondary school classes in Savona. Through the use of a questionnaire administered to 57 students, the goal is to discover how many of them are aware of the concept of slut shaming, whether it is perceived in daily life, and what vulgar and sexist terms or expressions they have received or used towards others.
