Analisi e proposta di traduzione del primo capitolo di “Retrato de un hombre inmaduro” di Luis Landero

The purpose of the the present work is the study of Luis Landero, one of the most prominent writers in contemporary Spanish literature, and thus filling a significant gap in the Italian publishing scene, paving the way towards a future distribution of his works in our country. Therefore, the main focus is to stimulate the interest of Italian readers and encourage them to appreciate the value of this Spanish author. The thesis, divided into three parts, presents a background which is essential for understanding Landero's work as a whole. It also outlines the profile of the author and the influences that have shaped his worldview and his writing. The writer creates an auto-fictional narrative and makes use of his personal and literary experiences to explore those recurring themes in his works, which he calls “demonios literarios”, and to meditate on the human condition and its facets. Furthermore, Landero demonstrates his great ability to fuse the European, Spanish and Latin American literary tradition, especially Kafka, Onetti, magical realism, Don Quijote and the picaresca. Taking into account this theoretical overview of Landero, an Italian version of the first chapter of the novel “Retrato de un hombre inmaduro” (2009) is provided, focusing on its linguistic, stylistic and cultural characteristics. In particular, the work investigates some features of the text and comments certain issues related to the language and style of the narrative. It also points out the translation choices made to preserve the stylistic effect of the original text.

Il presente elaborato nasce dall'interesse di approfondire la figura di Luis Landero, uno degli scrittori più affermati della letteratura spagnola contemporanea, e di colmare una lacuna significativa nel panorama editoriale italiano, aprendo la strada a una possibile diffusione delle sue opere nel nostro paese. Pertanto, l’obiettivo fondamentale è stimolare l'interesse dei lettori italiani e favorire la scoperta e l'apprezzamento del valore di questo autore spagnolo. Diviso in tre parti, l'elaborato offre innanzitutto un contesto essenziale per comprendere la produzione landeriana nel suo complesso, delineando il profilo dell'autore e le influenze che hanno plasmato la sua visione del mondo e la sua scrittura. Attraverso una narrativa definita autofinzionale, lo scrittore si serve del suo bagaglio di esperienze personali e letterarie per esplorare quelle tematiche ricorrenti nelle sue opere, che lui stesso definisce “demonios literarios”, offrendo una riflessione profonda sulla condizione umana e sulle sue sfaccettature. Inoltre, Landero dimostra tutta la sua grandiosità nella capacità di fondere la tradizione letteraria europea, spagnola e latino-americana, specialmente Kafka, Onetti, il realismo magico, Don Quijote e la picaresca. Alla luce di questa panoramica teorica su Landero, si propone una versione italiana del primo capitolo del romanzo “Retrato de un hombre inmaduro” (2009), porgendo l’attenzione sulle caratteristiche linguistiche, stilistiche e culturali. In particolare, mediante l’analisi del testo e il commento alla traduzione, si indagano alcune questioni legate al linguaggio e allo stile della narrazione e si evidenziano le scelte traduttologiche adottate per preservare l'effetto stilistico del testo originale.
