It is widely recognized that gender pay inequality is a bigger issue in the private sector compared to the public one, Italy is no exception. This thesis aims at assessing the likelihood of achieving gender pay equity in the Italian private sector. The initial section examines aspects of gender pay gap observed across countries and investigates the earnings disparities in both the private and public sectors in Italy. The following section reviews governmental policies and actions designed to mitigate the gender wage gap in Italy and explores practices that companies can adopt to reach gender pay equity within their organizations. The results indicate that attaining an equitable pay structure in this sector is a challenge that requires a joint effort between government bodies and companies, with a focus on implementing effective policies and promoting equal opportunities.
