La "Chronique du Pseudo-Turpin" di Pierre de Beauvais: edizione critica e commento

The paper aims to propose a critical edition of the “Chronique du Pseudo-Turpin” by Pierre de Beauvais, a French vernacularisation of the Latin text of the “Historia Turpini” that is part of the “Johannes” version. The study analyses the witnesses transmitting the text, basing the critical edition on manuscript 834 conserved at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and including in the apparatus the variants contained in witnesses 13521 of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and 10437 Bibliothèque royale de Belgique. Incomplete manuscripts and codex descripti were excluded from the analysis. The introduction analyses the status quaestionis of studies in Europe, with a mention of the Latin tradition and the vernacularisations that occurred in Italy, Spain and England. An in-depth study is devoted to the Gallo-Romance tradition and the 'Johannes' version, within which the translation by Pierre de Beauvais is included. Subsequently, the description of the manuscripts and the criteria used for transcription are presented. The following chapter is dedicated to the philological commentary, which includes the comparison between the witnesses and the analysis of the significant variants justifying the choice of the accepted reading as the text. This is followed by the transcription accompanied by the critical apparatus which reports the readings not accepted in the text.

L’elaborato intende proporre l’edizione critica della “Chronique du Pseudo-Turpin” di Pierre de Beauvais, volgarizzamento francese del testo latino dell’“Historia Turpini” che si inserisce all’interno della versione “Johannes”. Lo studio analizza i testimoni che tramandano il testo, fondando l’edizione critica sul manoscritto 834 conservato alla Bibliothèque Nationale de France e inserendo in apparato le varianti contenute nei testimoni 13521 della Bibliothèque Nationale de France e 10437 della Bibliothèque royale de Belgique. Dall’analisi sono stati esclusi i manoscritti incompleti e un codex descriptus. Nell’introduzione si analizza lo status quaestionis degli studi in Europa, con un accenno alla tradizione latina e ai volgarizzamenti che si sono prodotti in Italia, Spagna e Inghilterra. Un approfondimento è dedicato alla tradizione gallo-romanza e alla versione “Johannes”, all’interno della quale si inserisce la traduzione di Pierre de Beauvais. Successivamente è presentata la descrizione dei manoscritti e i criteri utilizzati per la trascrizione. Il capitolo seguente è dedicato al commento filologico che contiene il confronto tra i testimoni e l’analisi delle varianti significative che giustificano la scelta della lezione accolta a testo. Segue la trascrizione corredata dall’apparato critico che riporta le lezioni non accolte a testo.
