Turkish national identity has been the subject of a continuous and complex evolution during the 20th and 21st centuries, influenced by a series of unique political, social and cultural factors, and in particular by two charismatic figures of Turkish politics, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk” father of the Turks” and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan politician and Islamist. The aim of this thesis is therefore to collect and explain how Turkey and its modern and secularized identity were born thanks to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the various factors that contributed to delimiting its borders, and then focusing on how the role of the politician Recep Erdogan influenced its reformulation​ ​

L'identità nazionale turca è stata oggetto di una continua e complessa evoluzione nel corso del XX e XXI secolo, influenzata da una serie di unici fattori politici, sociali e culturali, e in particolare da due figure carismatiche della politica turca, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk” padre dei turchi” ed Recep Tayyip Erdoğan politico e islamista. Lo scopo di questa tesi è quindi raccogliere e spiegare, come nasce la Turchia e la sua identità, moderna e secolarizzata, grazie a Mustafa Kemal Atatürk e i vari fattori che hanno contribuito a delimitarne i confini, per poi focalizzarsi su come il ruolo del politico Recep Erdogan ne ha influenzato la sua riformulazione ​
