Il contributo del pensiero di Louis Sander per la teoria e la pratica psicoanalitica

The aim of this thesis is to expose the thought of Louis Sander and the repercussions it has had in the psychoanalytic field by being able to appreciate its relevance and clinical utility. The scope of Sander's work, in fact, has gradually been structured by the work of other authors who, taking their cue from his empirical observations with regard to caregiver-child interaction, have been able to give rise to new models and conceptualizations of change in psychotherapy. The first chapter was devoted to exposition of the author's thinking in order that the reading of subsequent chapters could be clearer and more straightforward. The observation of caregiver-child interaction was conducted using a systemic perspective, according to which the child's development is closely related to the system in which he or she is embedded. Therefore, the development of the child's subjectivity is influenced by the quality of the relationship with the caregiver figure. The same relational principle can be applied to the therapeutic domain; in fact, the possibility that the patient feels understood, listened to and recognized by his or her therapist affects the likelihood that he or she will acquire new adaptive strategies with which to be in the world. Moreover, affective processes appear to be as central to child development as they are to the therapeutic process. The quality of affections experienced by the child from birth with their caregivers is relevant to their long-term mental health.

L’intento di questa tesi è esporre il pensiero di Louis Sander e le ripercussioni che ha avuto in campo psicanalitico potendone apprezzare la rilevanza e l’utilità clinica. L’entità del lavoro di Sander, infatti, si è via via strutturata anche grazie al lavoro di altri autori che prendendo spunto dalle sue osservazioni empiriche relativamente all’interazione madre-bambino hanno potuto dare origine a nuovi modelli e concettualizzazioni del cambiamento in psicoterapia. Il primo capitolo è stato dedicato all’esposizione del pensiero dell’autore affinché la lettura di quelli successivi potesse risultare più chiara e lineare. L’osservazione dell’interazione caregiver-bambino è stata condotta utilizzando una prospettiva sistemica, secondo la quale lo sviluppo del bambino è strettamente connesso al sistema in cui è inserito. Per tale motivo, lo sviluppo della soggettività del bambino è influenzato dalla qualità della relazione con la figura di accudimento. Lo stesso principio relazionale può essere applicato all’ambito terapeutico, infatti, la possibilità che il paziente si senta compreso, ascoltato e riconosciuto dal proprio terapeuta influisce sulla probabilità che acquisisca delle nuove strategie adattive con le quali stare al mondo. Inoltre, i processi affettivi appaiono centrali nello sviluppo del bambino quanto nel processo terapeutico. La qualità degli affetti vissuti dal bambino fin dalla nascita con i loro caregivers è rilevante per la loro salute mentale a lungo termine.
