In the contemporary era of increasing global migration, the management of national borders stands as a critical focal point within the broader framework of global migration governance. This comparative study explores the methods employed by Italy and France to manage their borders in the migration context. The study firstly investigates the global migration governance system governed by the economic and human rights regimes. Providing an insight of the short, but tumultuous history of it, it briefly explains the main institutions and its mechanisms at the international and regional level managing migration. This thesis also covers the functions and the political mechanisms hidden behind the framework and develops the debated concept of state sovereignty. Having provided the keys to understand the subject, the focus shifts to a broad introduction of the European Union context, in order to more easily move to the notions of border and control, while underlining and exploring the complex debate arose about crimmigration. The final aim of the thesis is to provide enough instruments to understand comparative representation of the Italian and the French borders’ current situation. Having analyzed the methods employed in two European states, the research sheds light on the tensions at the borders with each other. Insights derived from this comparative analysis are expected to clear out the general understanding of the migration issue often covered by media with a hidden political message.

Abstract
Insights derived from this comparative analysis are expected to clear out the general understanding of the migration issue often covered by media with a hidden political message.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
