This thesis wants to elaborate on topics concerning race and racist oppression in today’s American society while, at the same time, keeping in mind the huge legacy left by slavery and racial segregation throughout American history. This work seeks to be completely centered on Black African American community and is committed to elaborate on the racist mechanisms that are still being carried out by the white-centered American society on Black African citizens. The latter chapter of the dissertation will address the ultimate goal of the work, which is to reach new insight regarding Ta-Nehisi Coates’ memoir while considering Nikole Hannah-Jones’ research.
